The Facts about Tea:
All Teas come from the leaf of one plant, called Camellia Sinensis, grown in warm-weather area. high quality teas are from the high lands, mountain or hill areas. Different teas such as green, black, woolong (oolong), pu-er and white tea are derived by the length of time the leaves are processed, especially the length of time of the oxidation period.
Tea contains about 1/2 of the caffeine of coffee, and much less than half in green tea.
The main active components in tea are Polyphenols, similar to other Phytochemicals found in many foods such as broccoli and carrots, but are much higher in tea -- up to 36% of dry weight.
The Antioxidants in tea include: Polyphenols, Flavonoids, Catechins, Flavonols, theaflavis, thearubigens and more.
A regular tea bag which is filled with cut, ground and low quality leaves will release about twice as much caffeine as Loose whole-leaf tea.
Although you can get antioxidants from fruits and vegetables, tea is the best source of Antioxidants without adding more calories to your diet.
