Q5. How to
Do Calculation to find the Opened Acupoints for a certain date
in a certain hour?
Here are the ways to do calculation to find the
opened acupoints from The
Eight Magic Turtle Acupuncture Techniques (Ling
Gui Ba Fa). It's more complex to do the calculation
from The Day-Prescription
of Acupoints Techniques (Na Jia Fa) because
of much more related acupoints
Firstly, you need to " translate" all the dates
from a Western calendar into Chinese
calendar because all the calculation is based on the Chinese
calendar, Not on the Western calendar. There used to be a lot
of calculation, but it is easy today because you can easily
get a Chinese calendar combined with all dates in the
Western calendar and check the Days
in Chinese calendar directly if you know Chinese.
It's hard for you if you don't know Chinese. (I don't know where
to get a Chinese calendar listed the Stems-Branches for each
day in English.). Secondly, you need to know the 10
Heavenly Stems and 12
Earthly Branches in Chinese calendar to do the calculation
with which you may not be familiar. For easy understanding of
calculation, I use Roman numbers and English letters to stand
for the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches:
10 Heavenly Stems are: I = 1.
Jia, II = 2. Yi,
III = 3. Bing, IV
= 4. Ding, V = 5. Wu*, VI =
6. Ji, VII = 7. Geng, VIII =
8. Xin, IX = 9. Ren, X =
10. Gei.
12 Earthly Branches are: a = 1. Zi,
b = 2. Chou, c = 3. Yin, d = 4. Mao, e = 5. Chen, f = 6. Si,
g = 7. Wu*, h = 8. Wei, i = 9. Shen, j = 10.
You, k = 11. Xu, l = 12. Hai. * Wu in 10 Heavenly Stems and Wu in 12 Earthly
Branches are different.

Let us begin the calculation of

1: Find the codes for Stems and Branches of the days

*Note: Yin
here is different from the Yin in "Yin or Yang"

day from Chinese calendar, it's a Yang day,
the Yin-Yang code is 9. The Yang days
are always 9 while the Yin days are always 6.

MNEF (Zi-Wu-Liu-Zhu):

(Table 3); 03/06/2003 is V day from the
Chinese calendar; the Beginning Stem-Branch at 0:00 for V day
is IX-a (Table 4); So we begin from 49.
IX-a (Table 5) and find the Stem-Branch
of h (hour) in this day period is 56. VI-h.

Stems-Branches for 2 pm
in 03/06/2003 is VI-h (Table 5) already.
So the Code # for 2 pm
in 03/06/2003 is 9 (from VI) + 8
(from h).
Step 4: Calculation Formula for
the acupoint # of MNEF (Zi-Wu-Liu-Zhu):
( Code # of Day + Code # of Hour) divides Code
# of Yin-Yang Day ... the residue = 8 Hui Acupoint #
For example, 03/06/2003 at
2 pm. The code # for date 03/06/2003
(V-c day) is 7 + 8 (from Step
1); the code # for hour 2 pm on 03/06/2003 is 9
+ 8 (from Step 3); the code #
of Yin-Yang days for 03/06/2003 is 9 (from
Step 2).
(7 + 8 + 9 + 8 ) / 9 = 3 ... residue
= 5 = #5 of
8 Hui Points. It's K6 (Zhaohai).
